New Owners for Market Square

The new owners of Market Square want to showcase the mall on this very visible and busy corner.

The Market Square, positioned at the intersection of Shawano and Military Avenues, has had long term endcap tenants – Toppers Pizza and UPS. There are also a few vacant spots for your new business including a turn key restaurant space.

A click on This link will walk you through the restaurant space that has many of the cooking hoods and booths still in place. This perfect space for a restaurant is 4,167 square feet. Other spaces can be rented from 1,200 sq. ft. to 7, 350 sq. ft.

Along with new ownership, a newly surfaced lot and landscaping will spruce up the mall. Available space is being rented by Kevin at MLG Commercial.

This property shares the intersection with McDonalds, Perkins, and a multi unit office complex. Just around the corner is the famous Pancake Place and BMO Harris Bank. Military Avenue is home to two hometown success businesses of Shopko and H.J. Martin and Sons. The Business Improvement District works with all the area businesses to offer joint advertising, event planning, banners, flowers and holiday decorations. As a business in this district, you can be part of a team of experienced business and property owners that work together for the good of the district.

Can we show you a space?

Treats for your dog!

Dog Gone Good Stuff!

Dog treats are not the first love for Paula, her own fur babies are!

Named after her former family, Two Spoiled Danes Bakery offers healthy treat options for your pets.

Market on Military is a dog friendly market. Paula has been with us since the first year and has become a favorite for the dog and owner teams that attend the market regularly.

Paula’s love for all animals brings her to find good quality products that are natural and loved by our companion animals. In addition to the baked goods, she also has dried liver, lung, and other not-so-pretty but oh-so-tasty parts.  Flea and tick prevention, soaps, toys and always a pat on the head, can also be found at Paula’s tent.

Grain free, wheat free, vegetable, meat, special flavors…. if your dog needs it, she has it. You can even find it in the shape of an ice cream cone.

This week at the Market on Military we will honor Dog Days with a demo from the Green Bay Police Department’s K9 and other dog products, including the Two Spoiled Danes Bakery tent.

Bring your well mannered dog for a treat at the Market on Military, Thursdays 3-7 in the Green Bay Plaza parking lot.

Early Apples are here!

Apple-Licious Orchard

Wanting to leave a legacy, in 2013 Kurt Leiterman graphed his own trees and now is producing apples and fruits on 2,000 trees! Memories of the good ole days  drove him and his family out to the country to build off a family legacy and create memories for his children.

The early Lodi and Yellow Transparent are ready now at the Market on Military. Perfect for eating or applesauce, if kept cold, they hold the firm texture and sweet but tart flavor before sweeting and becoming softer.

Later in the year, Kurt will be bringing more apples from his 8+ acre orchard. Some he may be featuring are 18 varieties of apples including Yellow Transparent, Lodi, Oriole, Zestar, Dandee Red, Cortland, McIntosh, Macoun, Wolf River, Snow Sweet, Honeycrisp, Frostbite, Liberty,   Empire,  Spartan, Connell Red, Fireside, Ida Red, & Bartlett Pear. They also have a few Sweet Cherries, Peaches, Apricot, and Plum.

Apple-Licious orchard mission statement: To supply and produce quality healthy products for the community, grow with the community, supporting family values while honoring God.

Weather, temperature, and rainfall play a big role in production levels and quantity of local products. As much fun as growing apples is, there are some factors that are out of your control. Apple-Licious apples are grown just down the road from the market. That is super FRESH! His orchard is also open on Saturdays.

Stop at the Market on Military to sample the fruit from Kurt’s hard, but rewarding work.

Teen Growers at the Market on Military

Have you seen the community gardens around town?

A group of teens that participate in the Brown County UW-Extension program planted vegetable plants this spring and are now ready to harvest and sell them to you. They will be at the Market on Military August 9th and 16th. In addition to fresh produce, they also sell processed jam and pickled beans and cucumbers.

This education program teaches local teens skills in horticulture, nutrition, local food, financial management, teamwork, marketing and business. You can follow them on Facebook Brown County UW Extension Community Gardens. https://www.facebook.com/bcuwexgardens/

“It has been a rewarding experience to see the youth open up to new opportunities like learning about the science of fish and plant systems, aquaponics, and beekeeping. They also have been excited to try new foods like honeycomb right off the beehive and zoodles and zucchini bread made from vegetables they have grown themselves. I am proud of the teens working together to create their own logo and team name, “Guardians of the Garden,” that they will be displaying on their t-shirts at the Military Ave Farmers’ Market,” expresses Teen Farmers’ Market Coordinator, Clarissa Skaletski.

The Market on Military is excited to have the teen growers! Come to see how they GROW!

D&T Gardens

D&T Gardens Bloom This Year

When the owner of D&T Gardens, David Horkman, is working the fields, Brian is attending the Market on Military to sell the crops. This year Jenny, a long time market employee, is also working in the fields and the crops are producing better than average. It might be her touch or our great weather this summer! (After the late snow melted.)

D&T Gardens attends all three of the Green Bay markets and works closely with the Women Infant Children (WIC) nutrition program which supports healthy eating for young children and their parents. Customers can use vouchers to purchase the locally grown produce. In addition to the produce grown in Howard and Black Creek, Brian also sells peaches from Georgia and blueberries from Michigan.

Electronic Benefit Transfer or better known as EBT is another method of payment customers can use to buy the produce. “One woman thanked me for accepting EBT payments and said that because she could use EBT, her grandkids can eat good food,” said David Horkman.

EBT is a food subsidy program through the government and the Market on Military also doubles the EBT amount up to $10 per day from a grant program sponsored by HSHS. The program encourages healthy eating and the fresh produce at D&T Gardens is a great fit.

One of my favorite products from D&T Gardens are the big yellow onions, they are super sweet. A quick and easy meal for the summer is to fry a couple pieces of bacon. When they are almost done,  add the onions, sliced zucchini, and lastly add green beans. Eat it alone or with pasta or rice. Yummy and healthy!

Meet Seng Lee

Hard work pays off for Lee’s Garden

Seng Lee has been a produce and flower vendor at the Market on Military since we started three years ago. She usually gets help from her kids to set up, fill out the paperwork, and sell. Her husband joins her too.

Seng Lee was shy about getting her picture taken but her smile shows how much she enjoys her job. The land she harvests is in Denmark.

The produce she sells covers all the seasons, from rhubarb and asparagus to pumpkins and squash. With our strange 2018 spring, Seng Lee is one of the few vendors that has been harvesting enough to sell in June and early July.

A bright new sign and warehouse sale at H.J. Martin and Son

If you have never been to an H. J. Martin and Son warehouse sale – you need to go, and go early!

The beautiful new sign at H. J. Martin and Son is announcing the popular, yearly warehouse sale!

A line starts to form before the opening time with anxious customers waiting to get the best pick of samples, over stock, remnants, one of a kind items, and more. Great prices on everything!

But go prepared to know the sizes of things you need! Will that box of tiles work for the table I want to make? Is that carpet piece big enough for my space?

Here is what their post says:

For all 365 days of each year, H.J. Martin and Son’s passion for flooring, design, installation and – most of all – our customers, is clear. For one of those days in particular, our goal is to share that passion and excitement by giving back to you, the customer, with amazing prices.

Every year we look forward to the H.J. Martin and Son Annual Warehouse Sale, and we’re not alone! Join thousands of your neighbors in visiting the Warehouse Sale for the highest quality products at unmatched prices. You can save up to 90 percent on select materials!

Have FUN doing your creative shopping!
