Broadway Automotive gets the Ford Motor Co. 2017 President’s Award

Congratulations to the award winning Military Avenue Broadway Auto!

Whether it’s a big truck that you may have needed this winter, or a hot convertable that you will want this spring, the Military Avenue Broadway Auto has a huge selection to choose from.

Broadway Ford of Green Bay Earns National Award from Ford Motor Co.

Green Bay, Wis., April 12, 2018 – Broadway Ford is among an elite group of Ford and Lincoln dealerships to be recognized with the 2017 President’s Award by Ford Motor Company. The prestigious award honors dealerships that have excelled in automotive service and sales in 2017, by providing exceptional customer service and satisfaction.

“Earning this award is a reflection of our entire staff’s commitment to delivering the best customer experience possible” says Michael Cuene, managing partner, Broadway Automotive. “Our team couldn’t be more proud to receive this recognition, especially since it comes from the people we value most – our customers.”

Broadway Automotive has earned the President’s Awards from Ford Motor Company eight times within the last ten years.

The President’s Award was established in 1998. Dealers become eligible through survey responses from customers related to their sales and service satisfaction.

“In order to achieve the President’s Award, dealers must exceed customer expectations every day in every department.  The pursuit of excellence requires passion, tenacity and hard work.  This prestigious award salutes those top-performing Ford and Lincoln dealerships that embrace these philosophies, achieving among the highest levels of customer satisfaction – in both sales and service – in automotive retailing,” said Mark LaNeve, vice president, Ford Motor Company.

New Owner of Liberty Tax

Welcome to the new owner of Liberty Tax in the Beacon Center.

You won’t see Lisa Willi or her daughters doing other community things for a while since this is the busy season for taxes. As a new owner of Liberty Tax 609 S Military Avenue, just behind Starbucks, she is knee deep in taxes.  Other than this time of the year, they all participate in numerous community volunteer opportunities, including helping out at our Market on Military.

You will, however, see a familiar face jaming and playing air guitar on the busiest corner in Green Bay, West Mason and Military Avenue. He has been doing this for years and loves it. Lisa lets him and others hop into the store to warm up whenever they need it.

Lisa may look familiar as she worked at Liberty Tax for many years and is a long time Green Bay resident with her husband, two daughters and a son. They, and her dad, all helped her at the grand opening in January of this year.

“I love taxes,” said Lisa. That is a rare statement but true for her. You can contact Lisa at Liberty Tax at 920-405-9801.

Tax Changes 2018

The new Tax Reform Laws will change how your business does it taxes for 2018 and how you and your employees track and claim your expenses.

After attending a morning seminar hosted by our auditor, Schenck, I wanted to outline a few business takeaways I think will affect you most today. As complicated and unclear as the changes are, this may be a year for you to seek advice from the professionals. By the way… We have a few tax prep places right here on Military Avenue.

*Starting Jan. 1, 2018, the deductions for meals and entertainment is pretty much gone. This pocket guide from Schenck outlines the few exceptions that are still deductible. Schenck’s Travel and Entertainment Deductions Pocket Guide You can also see their website at Schenck.com for more info.

The corporate tax rate is down to 21% from 37%. Good news for you! There is a difference between the benefits for C corporations vs S corporations but I cannot begin to explain it. IRA distribution direct to charity is allowed for those 70.5 or older and e-filing for all businesses has been made easier.

On the individual side, a person will no longer be able to accept or claim moving expenses without including it as income, except for active duty military personnel. No alimony deduction can be claimed either. Other provisions in education costs for 529 plans were expanded as well as doubling the allowed estate and gift tax.

In each scenario that Schenck presented, people and businesses would reduce their taxes except in the case of an individual owning lots of property since the property tax deduction is cut. (This would be an uncommon case.) Because the overall tax brackets changed and the standard deduction doubled, individuals will most likely not itemize their deductions at all and still benefit from taking the increased standard deduction.

That said, most all of these changes are set to change again, or expire and go back to where we were in 2017 in a few years. Stay tuned. The State of Wisconsin taxes will outline changes soon, due to the federal changes.

I don’t claim to be any expert and that is my take on the tax situation. Leah Weycker, Executive Director of Military Avenue, Inc.

Naniot’s Auto Service for sale, Bob’s retiring

Since 1987, Bob Naniot has operated Naniot’s Auto Service on Military Avenue but that is not his first rodeo here.

Bob worked on Military Avenue since he was just 14 years old, selling produce for Harry Wery’s Florida Fruit Market on the corner of Military Avenue and Velp. He worked at 5 different businesses over his career, all on Military Avenue. McDonalds, Zepher Gas Station, Ed Piche’s Amaco, and then he opened his own service station.

After 41 years of service, Bob is retiring and selling his well respected business. I, for one, was fortunate enough to have my check-engine light go off after troubleshooting at several other service stations with no luck.

“Keeping up with today’s technology is a challenge, but I think that keeps this business more stimulating.” said Bob, when I asked him how he adjusted to the computers in vehicles today.  His positive attitude has kept him and his long time employees busy having fun. They know most of the regular customers by name and will be great assets for anyone interested in purchasing this company.

Bob and his wife plan to travel from coast to coast and border to border and spend a lot of time up north. We wish them the best!

Below is the listing by Keller Williams Commercial, Ed Rudd.

In The News

As we start our 4th year of the Business Improvement District, the Green Bay Press Gazette’s Jeff Bollier sat down with us at Starbucks to discuss what we hoped to see this coming year, 2018. Here is a link to that article.

With the announcement of Sears closing, the gap in our business center will force a big change since the long time anchor’s opening in the late 1960’s. The Sears property and the Green Bay Plaza were under separate ownership. New owners purchased both parcels in December.

Erinn Taylor, from WFRV Channel 5, talked with us at the office. Her and the cameraman also went around the district and chatted with Dan at Chili John’s a GB Plaza customer. Here is a link.

We would love to hear ideas from you about what you want to see in this area. The new owners of the Plaza area are open to working with local, and not just corporate businesses. Military Avenue has always been a great district to start a business and let it grow and expand. Some of our great first’s are H.J. Martin and Son’s and Shopko. Both have grown to become large employers in the region and retain their presence on Military Avenue.

You can find an available property Google Map on our website that lists rental and for-sale property. We are home to a diverse and unique mix of retail, office, and restaurants. On Military Avenue, you can shop the best off-price retail stores and find the best all-day breakfast places in town.

Events are one way for us to drive traffic here and discover our area. Currently we host a very accessible summer farmers market and Music on Military event in the fall. What events would you want to attend? We like to work with the neighborhood associations and rely on volunteers to staff our events.

If you would like to share your ideas with us, we would be happy to hear them! You can contact Leah at 920-544-9503 or Director@militaryave.org.
